Forklift Annual Safety Audits Are Necessary

Keeping people safe in your company matters. In the warehouse this entails annual equipment audits to ensure that your equipment is fully protected, working correctly and safe to operate.

Regulations have become more stringent and 2021 is facing more oversight by CalOSHA and other regulating agencies. Companies will be required to track forklift contracts and check when a safety audit was last conducted. Failure to do so could have big implications for both safety and compliance efforts and likely generate penalties.

Lift Auditors’ experts conduct the safety audits that ensure your equipment meets every daily/weekly/monthly and annual safety inspection. Our maintenance checks are conducted according to the equipment operations and maintenance manuals that forklift vehicle owners maintain (all reports and data recorded in the truck logbook).

Regular Inspections & Audits Can Prevent Costly Fines

OSHA’s highest monetary penalties in fiscal year 2019 stem from a single incident or related incidents in which one or more employers are alleged to have failed to adhere to safe work practices and regulations. The following information appeared in an OSHA press release issued in Sept. 2019.

2021 OSHA Proposals for Forklifts

We wanted to share this important new information with you.

According to the Department of Labor, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) plans to issue a pair of proposals in the new year to update its forklift and walking-working surfaces rules.

Powered industrial trucks - forklifts or lift trucks - are used in many industries, primarily to move materials. The helpful machine moves, lifts, lowers, or removes large objects or many smaller objects on pallets or in boxes, crates, or other containers.

But did you know that more than one in ten forklifts is involved in an accident yearly? There are a variety of hazards commonly associated with forklifts, depending on the vehicle type and the workplace environment. Recent studies report that 95,000 employees are injured every year while operating forklifts while an average of 100 employees are fatally injured annually. Equipment maintenance or lack thereof plays big in these statistics.

Forklift Safety Inspection Regs

Did You Know That...

  • Nearly 1/4 of workplace transport injuries are the result of forklift accidents
  • The ForkLift Truck Association (FLTA) reports that forklifts are one of the most dangerous aspects of workplace transport
  • And report that forklifts injure 2,200 people annually, with 1,300 hospitalized with serious, or life-changing, injuries

These statistics reflect that most accidents involving forklift trucks occur in a warehousing or logistics environment. The causes include a lack of sufficient training of the operator, operator error, a lack of
knowledge about the equipment and the working environment, unsuitable premises. We’ll examine poor forklift truck maintenance and inspections.
